Seattle, WA, Oct. 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation has partnered with iHeartMedia to launch a new public service announcement to raise awareness about Supportive Cancer Care and the critical role it plays in helping people with cancer and their caregivers navigate the physical, emotional, and practical challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
Listen to the PSA.
Broadcast nationwide on iHeartMedia radio stations, the PSA features testimonials from patients and family members who faced a cancer diagnosis and highlights the need to expand access to Supportive Cancer Care services.
The new PSA is part of the Foundation’s “Support Is Care” initiative (www.supportiscare.org), a national campaign launched in March 2026 to raise awareness about Supportive Cancer Care across the United States.
Supportive Cancer Care provides whole-person support from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship. Services such as symptom management, mental health support, nutrition counseling, financial navigation, palliative care, and survivorship planning help people with cancer maintain quality of life, stay on track with treatment, and achieve better outcomes.
"Too few people facing cancer and their loved ones are aware of the Supportive Cancer Care services that may be available to them that can help them through treatment and beyond," said Audrey Haberman, CEO of The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation. "Through the power of real stories and real voices, this campaign helps patients and caregivers understand that cancer care is more than treating the disease. It's about ensuring people receive the physical, emotional, and practical support they need every step of the way. We’re grateful to iHeartMedia for this partnership and thank them for their willingness to use their national platform to help people living with cancer and their loved ones caring for them."
Supportive Cancer Care bridges clinical treatment like chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation with emotional, practical, and financial support, putting patients and caregivers at the center of care while also addressing the symptoms of the disease and the side effects of treatment. Supportive Cancer Care can include services like:
- Guidance on connecting to financial counseling and resources and help with transportation to appointments;
- Pain management;
- Conversations about goals of care and treatment options;
- Support for caregivers like family members and close friends;
- Patient navigation;
- Nutrition; and
- Help understanding insurance coverage, billing, and benefits.
By helping address the symptoms of the disease and the side effects of treatment, along with the practical and logistical demands of cancer, Supportive Cancer Care improves outcomes and quality of life, reduces overall health care costs, and expands access to services.
According to recent research:
- Patients receiving supportive oncology care had between 27% and 70% fewer inpatient admissions, and between 16% and 54% fewer emergency department visits compared to patients not receiving supportive oncology;
- There was a 25% reduction in Emergency Department utilization for people with Medicare and Medicare Advantage; and
- After 90 days of receiving supportive care, patient costs dropped by up to 25%.
Over two million people were diagnosed with cancer in 2025, and 18.6 million Americans are currently living with cancer. For the fourth year in a row, cancer is the top condition driving health care costs among employers in the United States. A 2023 study found that more than half of Emergency Department visits by people with cancer are preventable.
Awareness and access gaps continue to limit the use of Supportive Cancer Care services across the country. Support Is Care is working to close those gaps by equipping patients, caregivers, and providers with clear information about the types of support available and how to navigate the system.
